Feeling Pooped? Pick Yourself Up Pumpkin!
Last year, I taught this craft in a virtual LIVE during the heart of the COVID pandemic for a client’s Harvest Festival. Since toilet paper was the world’s hottest commodity at the time, it was fun transforming it into something joyful.
Because stores were continually out of stock, it made sense to hide the current inventory in a fall décor. Besides filling your soul with delight during the darker months, it serves as the perfect backup supply when you’re in a pinch!
Here’s the checklist of items you need for this craft:
- Toilet Paper [thicker rolls work best]
- Fabric [this can also be a bandana, old sweater, etc.]
- Wood Sticks [I used a wood branch from the yard cut down to 5″ – cinnamon sticks or wine corks work too]
- Ribbon [or more fabric]
- Silk Fall Leaves
Step 1:
First, cut the fabric down to 18′ x 18′ squares. Besides fabric, you can also use bandanas instead, they’re the perfect size to get started without any cutting.
Step 2:
Next, take the toilet paper and unwind part of the roll. Then re-roll it around the roll in a loose form to create a more rounder shape.
Step 3:
After you make the perfect shape, place the toilet paper in the center of the fabric. Start by pulling in one corner and tuck it into the center of the roll.
Step 4:
Following a clockwise motion, continue pleating in the fabric and pulling in more corners. Also, you can use a pencil to help tuck in the edges.
Step 5:
After all fabric is in the center hole, insert the stick.
Step 6:
Finally, finish off your pumpkin with ribbon or more fabric. Add accent leaves for the final touch.
As soon as the fall season is over, remove the fabric, sticks, and ribbon to keep everything for next year. Definitely the best part is using all the supplies over and over again with minimal storage space! Oh happy day!
