Greetings Glitter Crew,

Snow is falling all around and you’re probably wondering, “Why in the world are we talking about Spring?”

But here’s the truth, when there is darkness everywhere, you have to work even harder to find the light.

And sometimes finding the light means looking forward to something that’s to come.

Let’s Go on a Journey

Using all your senses, please imagine for me…

  • Feeling the warmth of a spring sun
  • Smelling the endless rows of blooming flowers
  • Hearing the busy buzzing bees
  • Savoring fresh picked berries
  • Seeing adorable fuzzy baby animals stumbling along

Stay with me, that’s where I’m going with this spring thought. The babies, specifically the mini humans in our lives.

If you allow your mind to wander like a child, that’s where you’ll find the real light and joy.

Because if you asked a child to think about those five senses, they would get excited and ask when you’ll be serving them strawberries. There is no limit to their imagination.

When I spend time with my precious niece, Malee, I’m reminded of 4 things we as grown-ups can learn from children. If we practice these lessons everyday, it will put sunshine back into these dark winter months.

LESSON #1: MAKE A NEW FRIEND

How many times have your kiddos come home and said, “I made a new friend today.”

It’s really easy when they’re little.

Because it’s as simple as “You love cookies, and I love cookies, did we just become best friends? Yep!”

Mini humans put all judgement aside. Instead of pushing away from people due to differences, they gravitate towards others based on simple interests.

LESSON #2: LAUGH EVERY DAY

In addition to friends, littles laugh for no reason. Whenever I Facetime with my niece, every other word is accompanied with giggles.

Gosh, it fills my heart with delight!

What always amazes me is the fact that she’s oblivious to whether anyone thinks what she’s laughing at is funny or not. Other people’s opinions don’t matter.

If it’s funny to her, she laughs, everything else is unimportant.

LESSON #3: ASK FOR HELP

To add to laughter and friends, mini humans know the word HELP all too well!

I think every parent can agree, having a mini human around is filled with non-stop…”Help Me” moments. Kiddos are always asking for something, “Can you get the cup…I need that toy…can you carry me?”

They never second guess whether or not they should ask for help, it’s programmed in them.

But as we grow older, although friends and family are always offering to help, we never ask. Speaking from personal experience, I’m often embarrassed to admit I need help.

If I could only channel the power of a three-year-old, and just ask, life would be so much easier. I know when I do get help my days are filled with more joy, support, and camaraderie.

LESSON #4: IMPERFECTION IS BEAUTIFUL

Next, it’s embracing imperfection. Have you ever crafted next to a kiddo? They scribble outside the lines, the paint is dripping down the sides and they are smiling.

To them, it’s a masterpiece and they can’t wait to put this work of art on the fridge.

They never look at their friends’ art in jealousy, instead they look at it in awe too. Their friend is just as talented as them.

For a child, there is no such thing as perfect or imperfect, there is only beautiful.

If something stood out to you, please share this message on social, pin it for others to read. Can you think of someone who needs to be reminded to embrace their inner child? If so, pass it along.

I would also love to know what other lessons you’ve learned from mini humans in your life? What have these littles taught you to embrace during dark times?
