Greetings Glitter Crew,

I’m embarrassed to share this…I messed up…real bad. I had an event scheduled on my calendar for months. The plan, arrive at 11am, at the home of one of my fave clients, and set up decorations. Instead, I did not arrive until 4pm. It was the time when the event started!

Needless to say, I felt terrible, really poopy. This event was recent. However it felt like 5 years ago and my first day owning a business.

The reason I’m sharing this is so you know, I’m human. And just like you, I too have moments when everything hits the fan! 💩

So how does one recover?

It is human nature to ask questions like “Why me?” Or worse, “Why am I a failure?” But those statements lead to dark places. It’s often referred to the “victim mentality.” It is a mindset that does not serve anyone.

During these rotten moments, try shifting to ask “How” and “What” questions instead. The results are often surprising.

  • “How did I get to this point?”
  • “What can I do better to prevent this from happening again?”

In addition, looking back and rewinding the weeks with these questions often helps to pick yourself up and avoid repeating the same mistakes.

What was my personal answer?

I said “Yes” to too many things. Because I said yes, I overcommitted myself to things that didn’t serve me.  Instead of providing optimal service, I was exhausted. As a result, prior to the client’s event, I did not sleep for 72 hours straight.

Consequently, I ran out of time. Now that I understand what happened, I can move forward with strategic planning like creating more accurate project timelines. Or practicing to say “No” often and holding my “Yes” sacred to things that light my heart on fire!

Finally I had clarity, which is the most important step when feeling exhausted. I learned there is always work to be done. But if I’m pooped, it’s okay to be not okay. Acknowledging the mistakes, it’s more important to allow time to rest and reflect.

What are the next steps?

In life,  it’s critical to not stay down forever. After you have allowed yourself to think and live in the poopy moments, that is when you find a way to move forward. Next step is to pick yourself up pumpkin! Because the only way to recover is allowing yourself the forgiveness it needs to grow and get the work done! Please pin and share this blog in your social feeds if these words helped you move forward in your dark moments. We can all rise together friends!

And if all else fails, take those poopy toilet paper moments and make a pumpkin! Check out my recent blog, Maker Monday: Toilet Paper Pumpkins, on how to transform your bathroom’s hottest commodity to amazing fall décor!
