Greetings Glitter Crew,
The weather is shifting, kiddos are back in school, and visions of pumpkin everything are dancing in your head! That’s right, fall is around the corner. So what does that mean?
For some, it means boots and scarves, the ultimate clothing accessories! It doesn’t matter how thin or fluffy you get, they will always love you.
But for others, fall means stillness. A quieter home, excessive worry, and anticipation of the dreary days ahead.
This darkness sometimes creeps in unexpectedly as you regret summer goals that were left unaccomplished.
So how do you shake off the icky feelings of failure? Here’s four tricks that I personally use to pull myself back out of a low.
Trick 1: I’m not failing, I’m learning, my journey is ongoing
Saying this phrase out loud while looking at yourself in the mirror, helps shift your perspective. Failure is defined as the lack of success. If you convince your mind that you haven’t reached the finish line and you’re still learning that means success is still around the corner.
Only compare today to yesterday by asking yourself, “Did I do one itty bitty thing to move my goals forward?” If the answer is “yes,” than hooray, you’re heading towards success! If the answer is “no,” that’s okay too, spend the next hour doing one thing that progresses you forward and then you’re exactly where you need to be.
Trick 2: Shake what your mama gave you
Like a good Taylor Swift song, SHAKE IT OFF. Try working out for 30 minutes. Or you can do what I do and be silly while imagining it’s an intense audition for So You Think You Can Dance. Whatever it is, you will forget what was stressing you to begin with and failure will be an afterthought. This works every time, even a short walk will relieve the tension.
If your crazy schedule doesn’t afford a 30 min sweat jam, then jump in place for 5 mins to get the blood and happy feelings flowing.
Trick 3: Find the light
This is important in so many ways. First, the literal light by waking up early with the sunrise. As nights get darker faster, the more opportunities you can get with Vitamin D shining on your soul the better. Get outside, the fresh air and sun will do you good.
Second, the figurative sense of the light by believing there is a higher power shining down on you. It doesn’t matter what religion you are part of, just believe there is something greater than you with a divine plan. By relying on this light and praying thanks to this light, you will find relief from failure more than you could ever imagine.
Trick 4: Share joy to others
Service goes a long way in overcoming failure. When you help others it naturally leads to a feeling of accomplishment. You feel success because you have the power to make a difference for someone else. This can be as simple as a phone call or text to brighten someone else’s day and let them know they’re loved. When you are feeling helpless, be helpful.
Sit quietly for five minutes, ask yourself who could use a smile today? I promise you, a name will pop into your head every time, and that person needs your joy. You’re not failing if you have the power elevate someone else.
If these tricks helped you, make sure to pin and share the image below to a friend, family or co-worker who needs a little uplifting.
My beautiful friends, I hope these four tips give you the strength you need to persevere through the fall leaves changing. Not only will you wear those boots and scarves with pride, you’ll strut with confidence knowing you’re not failing, you are moving forward one step at a time!
And when you’re doing your victory dance celebrating your mini wins, make sure to have a slice of pumpkin pie with whip cream, you deserve it!
